Orla Redmond
Head of Primary
Ms. Orla Redmond is an experienced educator with a passion for teaching and inspiring young minds. Originally from Ireland, Orla has dedicated her career to shaping the next generation of learners across different continents. Graduating from Trinity College with a B.Ed, Orla began her teaching journey in Dublin where she worked for 8 years across a number of different primary age groups. Seeking new challenges, Orla ventured to London, where she worked as a Special Educational Needs Officer for a local authority. Her passion for supporting children with additional needs was truly ignited in this role, and she was fortunate to later use the expertise and knowledge gleaned to support students in both state and private schools in the capital. Orla’s adventurous spirit led her to the picturesque Cayman Islands. There, she embraced the unique cultural context and contributed significantly to the local education system in a number of roles, including SENCO for the largest primary school on Grand Cayman, founding teacher for a Primary Behaviour Unit and as a teacher in a specialist centre for children with additional needs. She completed an MA (Education) with distinction during this time. Prior to joining the King’s School, Vattanacville, Orla was fortunate to spend 5 years in Malaysia, where she immersed herself in the rich cultural tapestry of the region, leading EAL and Individualised Learning provision in a large multicultural primary school in Penang. In addition to a B.Ed and MA (Ed.), Orla holds Diplomas in both Legal Studies and in Counselling and Psychotherapy, the latter underscoring her belief in the importance of holistic education and mental health and well-being.
In her spare time, Orla enjoys reading, learning about new cultures and exploring new places. She likes to try new recipes and is working on developing her baking skills. Unsurprisingly, Orla is currently enjoying the rich variety of restaurants and cuisines to be found in Cambodia, as well as the warm welcome of its people – one that mirrors the céad míle fáilte (hundred thousand welcomes) of her Irish home. She is excited to form part of the founding team at The King’s School, Vattanacville and looks forward to making positive contributions to the educational landscape here in Phnom Penh.
